Terms of Service
In short: Galley helps your teachers turn photos and scans into question papers. Your school owns its papers. Galley’s output is a draft that a teacher must check. Keeping question papers confidential, before and after the exam, is your school’s responsibility; we are not responsible for leaks. Our liability is limited to the fees you paid us recently.
1. Who we are and who these terms apply to
Galley is provided by [LEGAL NAME OF BUSINESS], a [sole proprietorship / LLP / private limited company] with its address at [ADDRESS] (“we”, “us”). These terms are an agreement between us and the school, coaching institute or organisation that signs up (“the School”), and apply to every person the School allows to use Galley (“Users”: school admins and teachers). By using Galley, the School and each User agree to these terms. If you use Galley for a School, you confirm you are authorised to accept these terms for it.
2. Accounts
- We create the School’s account and its first admin. The School’s admin adds and removes teachers. Accounts are personal: each User must use their own email and must not share their password.
- The School is responsible for everything done through its accounts, for keeping passwords secret, for removing Users who leave, and for telling us at once at [CONTACT EMAIL] if it suspects an account has been misused.
- Users may sign in without internet for up to 3 days on a computer where they signed in before. The School is responsible for controlling who can use its computers.
3. Credits, plans and payment
- Galley is paid for with credits under the plan agreed with the School. At the time of writing: 1 credit per page read, 2 per accurate re-read, 1 per 10 questions of answer key; exporting is free. We may change credit rules for future purchases with notice.
- Reading stops when credits run out. Credits are not refundable or transferable except where the law requires it, and may expire as stated in the School’s plan.
- Fees are exclusive of taxes (including GST), which the School pays. Late or unpaid fees allow us to suspend the School’s access.
4. Your content
- The School owns the material it uploads and the papers it makes (“Content”). The School gives us permission to store, process and send Content to our service providers (including Anthropic’s Claude, which reads pages and works out answers) only to provide Galley to the School, keep it secure and support the School.
- The School confirms it has the right to use and upload its Content, including any textbook or third-party material, and that this does not break copyright or any other law. We are not responsible for Content or for the School’s use of third-party material.
- Do not upload students’ personal information (for example names, roll numbers, photos or marks). Galley is made for question material, not student records.
5. Galley’s output must be checked
Galley uses artificial intelligence to read pages, type questions, apply edits, redraw figures and work out answers. It can make mistakes: wrong or missing words, symbols, numbers, options, figures, question order, marks or answers. Galley’s flags help, but they do not catch every error. The School and its teachers are solely responsible for checking every question, answer key and exported file before it is printed, shared or used in any exam. We are not responsible for any consequence of using unchecked or incorrect output, including wrong questions or answers in an exam, re-tests, complaints, regrading or any decision based on results.
6. Confidentiality of question papers and leaks
Keeping question papers, answer keys and exams confidential is entirely the School’s responsibility. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not responsible or liable for any leak, disclosure, copying, sharing or misuse of any question paper, answer key, draft or other Content, however it happens, including through:
- any User, staff member, student, parent or other person who has or obtains access to the School’s account, computers, devices, printers, files, email or messaging;
- passwords that are shared, weak, written down, reused, guessed or stolen, or devices that are lost, unlocked or infected;
- files exported, downloaded, printed, emailed, uploaded to other services or stored outside Galley;
- the School’s network, internet provider, or any third-party service the School uses;
- unauthorised access to, or attacks on, our systems or our service providers’ systems, despite the reasonable security measures we take.
The School is responsible for deciding who may see a paper, when papers are made, how they are stored, printed and distributed, and for its own exam security procedures. We do not guarantee that any paper will remain confidential.
7. Acceptable use
Users must not: use Galley for anything unlawful; upload content that is illegal, infringing or harmful; try to access another School’s data, our systems or other accounts; test, scan or attack our security; copy, resell or reverse-engineer Galley; overload the service or use automated scripts without our written permission; or use Galley to cheat in an exam. We may suspend or remove access that breaks these rules.
8. Availability, data and backups
- Galley is provided “as is” and “as available”. We aim for it to work well but do not promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free, always available before an exam deadline, or compatible with every device, file or Word version.
- We keep regular backups as part of running the service, but we do not guarantee that Content will never be lost. The School must keep its own copies of finished papers (for example the exported Word or PDF files) and of its source material. We are not liable for loss or corruption of Content.
- We may change, add or remove features, and may carry out maintenance, with notice where reasonably possible.
9. Third-party services
Galley relies on service providers, including Anthropic (AI reading), Supabase (accounts), Hostinger (servers), Google (sign-in emails) and Microsoft Word or LibreOffice (PDF export). Their failures, changes or outages are outside our control, and we are not liable for them.
10. Disclaimers
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement and that Galley will meet the School’s requirements or any exam board’s rules.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law: (a) we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive loss, or for loss of profits, revenue, reputation, goodwill, data, or the cost of re-conducting any exam, however caused; and (b) our total liability for all claims relating to Galley in any 12-month period will not exceed the fees the School actually paid us for Galley in the 3 months before the event giving rise to the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
12. Indemnity
The School will defend and compensate us, and our owners, staff and service providers, for any claim, loss, penalty or cost (including reasonable legal fees) arising from: its Content; its or its Users’ use of Galley or its output; any leak or disclosure of its papers; its breach of these terms; or its breach of any law or third-party right.
13. Suspension and ending
The School may stop using Galley at any time. We may suspend or end access if the School breaks these terms, does not pay, or if required by law or to protect Galley or others. After an account ends, we may delete the School’s Content after [30] days; please export what you need before then. Sections 4–6 and 8–15 continue after ending.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We will show the new date above and, for important changes, tell School admins by email or in Galley. Continuing to use Galley after a change means accepting it.
15. Law, disputes and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of India. The courts at [CITY, STATE] have exclusive jurisdiction. Before going to court, both sides will try to settle any dispute in good faith for 30 days. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. Contact: [CONTACT EMAIL], [ADDRESS].
